   • First performed by Kenny Baker in The Goldwyn Follies in 1938, but became popular thirteen years later when it was sung by Gene Kelly to Leslie Caron in the film An American in Paris in 1951.

   • "I Was Doing All Right" was introduced by Ella Logan on the radio, unseen, in the 1937 film The Goldwyn Follies.

6. Blah Blah Blah: RACHEL

   • Taken out of the trunk from the failed project East is West for the film Delicious in 1921. It pokes fun at the industry's simplicity of lyrics and rhymes.

7. Foggy Day: RACHEL

   • A very popular standard in the American Song Book covered famously by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Judy Garland. It appeared originally in A Damsel in Distress (1937) starring Fred Astaire and Joan Fontaine.

8. But Not For Me: RACHEL

   • Ella Fitzgerald won a Grammy for performing "But Not For Me" on her album The Gershwin Songbook.

9. Embraceable You: RACHEL

   • Originally written for the unpublished operetta East is West (1928). Ginger Rogers then sang it in the 1930 Girl Crazy. Billie Holiday's 1944 recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2005.

10. Could You Use Me: RACHEL & BERIT

    • From the Musical Girl Crazy that made a star of Ginger Rogers singing "Could You Use Me?" as well as "Embraceable You" and "But Not for Me".

    • Ira has said of it that it's clumsy lyric writing, but that Ethel Merman could sell anything.

13. Bidin' my Time: RACHEL & SARAH & KELLY

    • First appearing in the musical Girl Crazy in 1930, it was later performed in the film with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney and a crowd of cowboys.

14. Shall We Dance: RACHEL & SARAH & KELLY

    • From the film with the same name, George originally wanted to write each song referencing a different style of dance. The film's score is the largest source of Gershwin orchestral works unavailable to the general public.

    • Made for the brothers' musical Pardon My English in 1932. It was a flop, but vintage records still exist of the original recordings.
